The Story Behind Zoap

Zoap came out of Deep East Oakland, bred by a grower named Guero who goes by DEO and named his brand after his neighbourhood on 105th Avenue. He started growing at 15 and spent six years perfecting this cross through a meticulous backcrossing program. It started with OZ Kush seeds (Eddy OG x Zkittlez), from which he selected the #41 phenotype that “tasted like Kern’s Pink Guava” juice. That became Pink Guava. Separately, he popped 100 Rainbow Sherbet seeds and found female #16, which he bred back to a Rainbow Sherbet male. From the resulting seeds, phenotype #21 became the Zoap we know today.

The name references the strain’s distinctive “soapy” aroma, a clean, almost detergent-like floral quality mixed with candy. DEO describes it as “a Mexican cleaning product blended with Skittles.” Wizard Trees grew the first commercial batches, and it won Best Overall at the 2022 Zalympix Championship in LA. DEO’s first legal retail drop happened in September 2023 at The Marathon Collective in Canoga Park, Nipsey Hussle’s dispensary. The Nose
