The Story Behind Kalimotxo

Kalimotxo gets its name from the Basque drink that mixes red wine and cola, and the strain leans into that same sweet-sour personality. The original cut was bred by Doja Pak in Sacramento, with Ryan Bartholomew running the show. It came out of a limited collab with Duke of Erb, crossing Lime Sickle (Zkittlez x Strawberry Zkillato) into Zangria (Wizard Trees’ Thin Mint Cookies x The Original Z). Two Zkittlez-anchored parents stacked together, then pushed in different directions: Lime Sickle drags the profile toward bright citrus candy, while Zangria pulls it back into a cookie-and-berry indica frame.

What landed at OTF is a rosin pressed from this exact lineage, run through their Thailand workflow. Live rosin keeps the volatile terps that dried hash washes tend to lose, so what you get in the jar is closer to what the living plant smelled like at harvest. OTF doesn’t put out marketing or social channels, they let the product talk. With a cut this expressive, that approach works.

The Nose

Crack the jar and the first wave is sharp lime, sour and zesty, almost like a frozen daiquiri on the rim of the glass. Behind it sits a sweet, slightly artificial candy note, the kind of red-berry sweetness that gives Kalimotxo its name. Berry deepens as you warm the rosin between your fingers, ripe and a little jammy, and the citrus brightens everything from underneath. There’s a final whiff of gas hiding in the back, faint but present, that reminds you which family these genetics come from. Limonene is doing the heavy lifting up top, pushing that lemon-lime pop. Myrcene rounds out the bottom with that herbal, slightly musky weight, and Caryophyllene adds a peppery edge that keeps the candy from going one-dimensional. The whole nose feels alive in a way only fresh-pressed rosin gets.

The Dab

Low temp on the banger is mandatory here, the terp profile is too good to torch. First pull is pure lime candy, bright and almost effervescent, with the Limonene coating the tongue. The vapour is clean and smooth, not oily, and on the exhale the berry sweetness opens up alongside a soft creamy finish that wasn’t obvious on the nose. Second pull leans gassier, and that’s when the Caryophyllene bite shows up in the back of the throat, peppery and warm. The melt is consistent, the flavour holds across the full dab, and the after-taste sits on the palate for a few minutes like a sucked candy. Rosin from this genetic line is almost designed for low-temp work.

The High
