The Story Behind Ze Boof

The cross comes from Blockhead, an independent breeder in San Diego, who put Black Cherry Punch (Purple Punch x Black Cherry Pie) together with Tropicana Cookies (Girl Scout Cookies x Tangie). The plan was to stack the dark fruit and easy body of one parent on the bright orange peel of the other. It worked far beyond a breeder’s test run: within a few years the cross had spread across US dispensary menus, and in 2024 Leafly named it Strain of the Year.

The jar we carry is grown in living soil, and that is the weed we want on our shelf at How High. Living soil is a bed of organic matter alive with microbes and fungi that feed the plant slowly, instead of bottled nutrients poured in at every watering. Growers who work this way accept slower runs and smaller harvests in exchange for a fuller terpene profile and a smoother smoke. The farm’s exact pheno selection is not documented, so the profile below follows the cross itself rather than a lab sheet from this jar.

The Nose

The fruit gets out of the jar before you do. First comes a juicy hit of orange peel from the Tropicana Cookies side, with a wider citrus glow around it. Then the Black Cherry Punch side settles in underneath: dark, ripe cherry rather than candy cherry, on a soft sweet base.

Grind a bud and a musky, earthy floor shows up under all that fruit. That grounding note is the Myrcene, the terpene this line leans on most, and it keeps the nose from reading like plain juice.

The Smoke

Smoothness is what living soil growers chase, and it suits this line: expect a medium-bodied smoke that is easy to hold. The orange leads on the inhale, bright and clean, then the cherry takes over on the exhale with a light earthy finish. A few pulls in, the citrus softens and the sweet side comes forward, so the back half of a joint tastes rounder than the front.
