Watermelon phenotype of Nishi (Yellow Zushi x Zkittlez). Juicy watermelon, sweet tropical candy, creamy finish. Calm, balanced high. Low anxiety risk.
WaterMelon Nishi by The Tenco
WaterMelon Nishi by The Tenco is an indica-leaning hybrid (40/60) born from Yellow Zushi x Zkittlez (watermelon phenotype). At 20-26% THC, this is the juiciest cut in The Tenco’s Nishi line. Where regular Nishi leans candy-citrus, WaterMelon Nishi pushes hard into ripe, dripping watermelon territory with a balanced high that stays calm and clear from first pull to last. Best for day or night.
Original Cali Pack by The Tenco. Also available: Nishi (candy-citrus phenotype).
The Story Behind WaterMelon Nishi
The Tenco is one of the most respected breeders in the Z-family world. Co-founders Staks and Gerry built the brand around Blue Zushi (Zkittlez x Kush Mints 11), which became one of the most coveted clone-only cuts in Los Angeles. From there, they expanded into Yellow Zushi, Wazabi, Chiizu, Fuzu, Zozi, Zoy, and eventually Nishi. Each name follows a Japanese-inspired convention that runs through the entire catalogue, and each strain pushes a different angle on the Zkittlez genetics sitting at the core of the programme.
Nishi (Yellow Zushi x Zkittlez) doubles down on the Zkittlez side. Yellow Zushi itself is a Zkittlez x Kush Mints cross, so Nishi stacks fruit and candy genetics on top of each other. The Tenco’s breeding work is meticulous, however, and different phenotype selections from the same cross can express wildly different flavour profiles. Regular Nishi leans candy-citrus with a creamy, floral finish. WaterMelon Nishi by The Tenco is the watermelon-expressing phenotype: it takes that same genetic backbone and channels the fruit expression into juicy, ripe watermelon. The Kush Mints creaminess from the Yellow Zushi parent still sits underneath, but instead of leading with citrus candy, this cut leads with watermelon and tropical sweetness. As a result, it’s the lightest and most approachable version of Nishi. Built around clarity and restraint rather than raw power.
The Nose
Pop the seal and Watermelon fills the room immediately, ripe and unmistakable, like biting into the centre of a chilled slice on a hot day. Sweet follows right behind, a round sugary quality that sits underneath the fruit and carries it further. As the nugs warm in your hand, Tropical depth opens up, mango and guava hints that layer into the watermelon and give it dimension. Break the buds apart and Candy arrives, that Zkittlez signature sweetness that every Tenco strain carries somewhere in its DNA. Citrus peeks through from the deeper layers, bright and clean, a lemon-zest edge that keeps the sweetness from going one-note. Finally, Creamy smoothness rounds out the whole profile, silky and cool, the Kush Mints heritage showing itself quietly at the back. Myrcene anchors the base with herbal, earthy depth. Limonene drives the citrus brightness that lifts the watermelon. Caryophyllene adds a subtle peppery warmth behind the sweetness, while Linalool brings a soft floral quality that threads through everything. Light green buds with orange pistils, medium density, and a generous trichome coat that sparkles when you turn them in the light.
The Smoke
Smooth on the inhale, no harshness at all. Watermelon lands immediately on the first pull, bright and juicy, exactly what the nose promised. On the exhale, sweet and creamy coat the palate together, thick and satisfying, with a cool quality that lingers. Mid-joint, tropical fruit notes deepen as the heat builds, while candy sweetness rises through the middle section. The Caryophyllene activates gradually, pushing a warm peppery finish into the second half that wasn’t there at the start. The citrus sharpens near the roach as the Limonene concentrates in the resin, cutting through the sweetness with a clean, bright bite. Meanwhile, the Linalool keeps a soft floral thread alive underneath from start to finish. White ash, slow and even burn, clean draw throughout.
The High
The onset is gentle and warm. Euphoric brightness fills the headspace within a few minutes, lifting the mood with a smooth, sunny quality. Uplifting energy follows close behind, not pushy or stimulating, just a quiet sense that everything feels a little better than it did five minutes ago. Happy warmth settles in naturally, the kind of contentment that makes conversation flow easily and small things feel more enjoyable. Around the ten-minute mark, Relaxation begins spreading through the body, gentle and steady, loosening tension from the shoulders and settling into the limbs without pulling you down. Then Calming ease deepens the whole experience, smoothing out any remaining edge and leaving you in a balanced, functional state. The Myrcene and Linalool partnership shows up in how soft the body side feels. No heavy couchlock, no sedation, just a comfortable physical calm that sits alongside the mental brightness. Low sleepiness means you stay present and alert. Low anxiety risk means the euphoria never tips into overthinking. This is the watermelon phenotype at work: lighter, sweeter, and more approachable than regular Nishi, with a ride that stays clean and clear from beginning to end.

Who Should Try WaterMelon Nishi by The Tenco?
At 20-26% THC, WaterMelon Nishi by The Tenco is one of the gentlest packs in The Tenco’s catalogue. If you’re newer to cali-grade flower or you prefer something that won’t overwhelm, this is an excellent starting point. Low anxiety risk and low sleepiness give it a wide window of use: mornings, afternoons, social settings, evening wind-downs. For anyone dealing with stress or anxiety, the combination of Limonene-driven mood lift, Linalool’s floral calm, and Myrcene body ease covers a lot of ground without knocking you out. The balanced high type means head and body stay in sync rather than one pulling ahead of the other. Experienced smokers looking for a clean, flavour-forward session will appreciate how much watermelon comes through in the smoke. If you enjoy this profile but want something with more candy-citrus depth, Nishi takes the same Yellow Zushi x Zkittlez genetics in a different direction.
