The Story Behind Deep East

Guero grew up on 105th Avenue in Deep East Oakland — one of the neighborhoods hit hardest by the war on drugs — and named his brand after the block. He got his 215 medical card around 2011-2012, started growing a couple years later, and went deep into breeding with OZ Kush and Sunset Sherbert genetics. He F2’d the OZ Kush to create Pink Guava, crossed it with Sunset Sherbert, and produced around 120 Rainbow Sherbert seeds. Those seeds changed the game — Wizard Trees selected the #11 and #54 phenos from that same seed stock, and RS11 became one of the most sought-after strains in California. Zoap, his third-generation Rainbow Sherbert cross, took six years to breed.

What Sets Deep East Apart

Deep East is the genetic origin point — not just a grower, but the breeder who created the actual seed stock. When you smoke RS11 from Wizard Trees or Zoap from anyone, those genetics came from this operation on 105th Avenue. Guero still operates out of Oakland despite pressure to relocate, trying to do for his city what Nipsey Hussle did for his. His first legal retail drop was at The Marathon Collective, Nipsey’s family dispensary. With 24+ strains currently in development culled from 3,000 seeds, DEO runs the marathon.

• RS11: Pink Guava x Sunset Sherbert. Sweet sherbert limonene up front, musky caryophyllene spice on the back, euphoric cerebral lift into warm body high.
• Zoap: Third-generation Rainbow Sherbert cross. Soapy-fruity nose like Suavitel mixed with Skittles. Giggly, relaxed, with real staying power.
• TopSyde: RS77 x The Y BX1. Floral sherbert, cherry, and guava flavours with smooth smoke and the unmistakable DEO genetic signature.
• Dirty Guava: Pink Guava lineage pushed further. Tropical fruit and earthy funk with heavy resin and complex terpene layering.

If you see anything with DEO genetics on the shelf, grab it — this is where RS11 and Zoap actually came from. The TopSyde is our current favourite, that sherbert-cherry-guava combo is complex and the smoke is ridiculously smooth. Deep East is breeder-grade flower, not just grower-grade.
