The Story Behind EmeraldZ

The Z lineage starts with Zkittlez, bred in Northern California by Terphogz and 3rd Gen Family during the early 2010s. The original cross paired Grape Ape with Grapefruit and an undisclosed third parent, producing a strain that won 1st Place Indica at the 2015 High Times Cannabis Cup and 1st Place at the 2016 Emerald Cup. Those back-to-back wins proved that candy-forward terp profiles could compete with the gas-dominant strains that had ruled competition circuits for years.

EmeraldZ takes that foundation and crosses it with Emerald City, a Northern California cultivar named for Seattle’s nickname but rooted in the Emerald Triangle growing region. The result pulls the fruit-candy terps from the Z side and adds a brighter, more sativa-forward structure from Emerald City. Rimikkusu selected this phenotype for its upbeat, functional character, a cut that keeps the iconic Z sweetness without tipping into sedation. The sativa lean shows in the bud structure too: slightly more elongated, lighter green with orange pistils winding through dense trichome coverage.

The Nose

First through the bag is Candy, loud and unmistakable, like cracking open a bag of fruit gummies. Berry builds underneath, ripe and round rather than sharp.
