The Story Behind GMO Papaya

Static Room chose GMO Papaya for their static sift line because the cross was built for exactly this: washing. 808 Genetics, a Hawaiian seed company, bred GMO Papaya by crossing Papaya with a GMO BX2 male (a backcross of GMO bred through multiple generations for potency and resin production). The goal was straightforward: take the pleasant tropical terpenes of Papaya, fuse them with the raw potency and heavy trichome coverage of GMO, and produce a plant that washes exceptionally well. Phenotype selection prioritised resin yield alongside flavour, and the chosen cuts show variegated leaves and pink pistils inherited from the Papaya mother.

On the GMO side, the genetics trace back to Girl Scout Cookies x Chemdawg, one of the most pungent lineages in modern cannabis. On the Papaya side, Nirvana Seeds’ Citral 13 x Ice 2 provides the tropical fruit aromatics. Together, these two very different flavour worlds collide in a way that shouldn’t work but does: fruit salad at the front door, garlic bread in the kitchen.

The Nose

The sift is sandy gold with a slight amber tint, and it starts talking the moment you crack the jar. Ripe tropical fruit hits first, like overripe papaya left in the sun, followed immediately by a wave of garlic and gas that rises from underneath. The Caryophyllene brings a peppery, almost savoury edge that bridges those two worlds, while the Myrcene thickens the base with an earthy musk. There’s a sweet, almost candied quality to the fruit notes, and a faint spicy warmth at the tail end courtesy of the Limonene interacting with the garlic funk. The Smoke
