The Story

Grapefruit is a classic Dutch sativa bred from Cinderella 99, the legendary Brothers Grimm cut that Mr. Soul selected from Jack Herer seeds found in an Amsterdam coffee shop. Nectar Seeds crossed that C99 with a fast-flowering landrace sativa and produced a strain that became known for one thing above all else: a grapefruit nose so loud it could fill a room from across the hall. Bright, energetic, and citrus-forward, Grapefruit became a staple in Dutch coffeeshops through the early 2000s and never really left.

Zkittlez came from the other side of the world. 3rd Gen Family in Southern California crossed Grape Ape with Grapefruit and gifted the cut to Terp Hogz. Brandon from Terp Hogz ran with it, pushing through early phenotypes that lacked bag appeal until the candy terps locked in. The result won Best Indica at the 2015 Cannabis Cup in Michigan and took 1st Place at the 2016 Emerald Cup. It became the mother of Runtz, the backbone of modern candy genetics, and one of the most crossed strains in California history.

Here is where Grapefruit Z gets interesting: Zkittlez already carries Grapefruit in its lineage. So when you cross Grapefruit back into Zkittlez, the citrus side gets reinforced twice over. The candy sweetness from the Zkittlez stays, the tropical fruit layers stay, but the grapefruit rind and sour citrus punch get doubled. IYKYK took that cross and ran a cut that leans indica in the body while keeping the head clear and bright. The result sits in the Chill group rather than the Up group because the Myrcene and Linalool pull the body down just enough to keep you grounded, but the Limonene keeps the mood lifted the entire time.

The Nose

Crack the seal and Grapefruit hits the room immediately, sharp and unmistakable, like fresh rind squeezed between your fingers. Citrus brightens behind it, clean and tangy. Break the nugs apart and the Zkittlez side shows up: Sweet and Candy layer in with a sugary depth, then Fruity and Tropical round it out into something full and ripe. The Smoke

The first pull is all grapefruit and citrus, bright and tart across the palate from the jump. The doubled-up Grapefruit genetics show their hand right here. Midway through, sweet and candy open up as the bowl warms, and tropical fills in behind them with a ripe, juicy quality. Fruity and sour develop through the middle, and berry rounds out the longer draws. As the Limonene concentrates near the end, the citrus sharpens on the last few pulls.
