MAC 1, short for Miracle Alien Cookies 1, has one of the best origin stories in cannabis. The breeder, Capulator, popped the first MAC beans on January 1, 2016, crossing Alien Cookies F2 (Girl Scout Cookies x Aliendawg) with a plant called Miracle 15. The Miracle 15 story alone is worth telling: it came from a cross of Starfighter and a Colombian landrace that Capulator personally sourced in South America. The seeds accidentally ended up in a pants pocket that went through the washing machine. His wife put the soapy seeds into paper towels, and they all germinated. Every seedling died except the fifteenth one planted, the lone survivor. That’s how it earned the name Miracle 15.

Capulator, an old-school grower active since 1996 and a regular on the cultivation forums that shaped modern breeding, combined that miracle survivor with Alien Cookies F2 to create MAC. The “1” in MAC 1 refers to Cap’s specific cut, the phenotype he selected and held as the gold standard.
