Blue Gelato
Blue Gelato Strain
The Blue Gelato strain answers a simple question: what happens when you pour old-school Blueberry into the Gelato recipe? Bred by Barney’s Farm, it is an indica-leaning hybrid (40/60) from Blueberry x Thin Mint GSC x Sunset Sherbet, usually reported at 20 to 25% THC, with berry and cream on the nose and a smooth, calm landing in the body. It works from the afternoon into the evening.
Most seed menus list it as Blue Gelato 41. Jump to where to find Blue Gelato.
The Blue Gelato Strain Story
The name gives the recipe away. Gelato was built from Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, and number 41 is the phenotype that made that name famous. Barney’s Farm, the Amsterdam seed house, took those same two dessert parents and folded in Blueberry, the berry line DJ Short developed, which took a High Times Cannabis Cup in 2000. Barney’s own description calls the result a Blueberry super-cross with the West Coast, which is exactly what the Blue Gelato strain is: a seventies fruit legend married to the California dessert era.
There is one disagreement worth knowing about. The breeder sells it as clear-headed and energetic, while smokers keep reporting that it runs heavier than a regular Gelato. Both can be right: the difference is mostly dose and timing, with the bright side up front and the weight arriving later.
The Nose
Blueberry is the headline, cooked and deep like pie filling rather than fresh off the bush. Citrus peel brightens the top, and the dessert half of the family shows up as vanilla with a cool hint of mint, the Thin Mint Cookies calling card. It all reads sweet, sitting on an earthy base. Caryophyllene brings a peppery warmth, Limonene the zest, and Myrcene with Pinene give the finish its herbal, slightly resinous edge. In cool grows the Blueberry side can push blue and purple into the leaves; under a warm sun the colour stays subtle and the frost does the talking.
The High
The opening is the breeder’s version of the strain: euphoric, uplifting and surprisingly clear, with a focused, creative edge that makes the first stretch easy to use. The second act belongs to the lineage. Blueberry and Gelato both pull toward the body, and after half an hour a relaxed, calming body high takes over the session, soft rather than crushing at a sensible dose and genuinely sleepy if you keep going. Anxiety risk reads low, which makes it a kind pick for nervous smokers who want to unwind, and stress and restless evenings are what people most often mention it for. Overall the relaxation wins, which is why it sits in Chill on our menu.
