The Story Behind Mango Z

Mango Z is the work of Top Dawg Seeds, the NYC-based operation run by the breeder known as JJ NYC. JJ has been in the game since the early 1990s, when he linked up with the original Chemdog circle in Central Park and started preserving rare genetics on forums like Overgrow and ICMag. Top Dawg built its name on Chem-line classics like Tres Dawg and Star Dawg, but JJ’s interests always stretched into haze territory. For Mango Z he crossed Zkittlez with his own Mango A5, a haze-leaning line that traces back through A5 Haze (Nevil Schoenmakers’ legendary Northern Lights #5 x Haze A from the late 1980s) and Mango Haze (the Mr Nice Genetics cultivar closely related to Super Silver Haze). The Mango side of this cross carries some of the most decorated Dutch haze genetics ever created, filtered through JJ’s selection eye.

The Zkittlez half needs less introduction. Bred in Northern California by 3rd Gen Family and popularised by Terp Hogz, the Original Z won the 2016 Emerald Cup and went on to parent some of the decade’s biggest strains, including Runtz.
