The Story Behind Sake

Sake is a full-circle story in cannabis breeding. It starts with Sin City Seeds, a Las Vegas operation that has been quietly shaping American genetics since the early 2000s. Their signature creation is Blue Power, a cross of The White and DJ Short’s Blue Moonshine that became one of the most influential breeding males in modern cannabis. Blue Power’s DNA runs through Wedding Cake, Kush Mints, Animal Mints, Ice Cream Cake, and critically, Apples & Bananas, the quad-cross collaboration between Compound Genetics and Cookies that became one of the most sought-after strains of the 2020s. When Sin City Seeds crossed Apples & Bananas back with their own refined Blue Power IX2 (a second-generation incross bred for consistency in trichome production and structure), they were essentially reclaiming their genetics. The grandchild came home.

The name tells you what they were after. Sin City describes Sake as “infused wine cocktails with the potency of hard liquor”: refined, smooth, deceptively strong. The Apples & Bananas side brings its signature sweet-gassy fruit profile, while the Blue Power IX2 adds creamy vanilla, berry funk, and the dense trichome coverage that made the original Blue Power a breeding legend. The plants flower in 55-65 days and throw frosty round buds in purple and light green. Community grow reports are still scarce since Sake is a newer release, but the pedigree on both sides is proven beyond question.

The Nose

Rich and layered from the moment you crack the jar. Sweet grape candy leads, deep and concentrated like a grape soda left open overnight. Sweet cream sits right behind it, and then a thick berry funk rolls in, giving the whole profile a sticky, jammy quality. The creamy vanilla from the Blue Power lineage is unmistakable. Underneath all that fruit, gas and earthy funk anchor the nose, adding weight and complexity. A citrus tang brightens things slightly, while a peppery bite from the Caryophyllene comes through when you grind the buds.
