The Story Behind Black Zquid by The Tenco

The Tenco built its name on the Zushi line, Original Z crossed into Kush Mints, and on a naming habit borrowed from a menu rather than a seed catalogue. Escargot, Ribeye, Fish Bone, Beluga Caviar, Black Cod. Zquid belongs to that same table, and it is not a one-off drop: the brand lists it as an F2 and Bx1 project, meaning they kept selfing and backcrossing the line instead of releasing the first thing that popped. That is unusual patience for a brand that could sell out on hype alone.

What the parents actually are, TenCo keeps to itself. Plenty of California brands do this with their flagship work, and the Z family in particular is full of undisclosed selections. What you can read off the plant is the Z influence: that sweet, candied top note the Zkittlez descendants all carry, sitting here under a much heavier layer of gas than the Zushi cuts show. This Collector’s Jar release pushes that gas further than earlier batches did, which is the whole point of the edition.

The Nose

You get fuel first, and plenty of it. Gassy hits before anything else, sharp enough to sting slightly. Behind it sits a pungent Funky layer with an almost savoury edge, closer to sweet onion than to skunk, and under that a damp Earthy base that keeps the whole thing grounded. A thread of fresh Pine cuts across the top, resinous and clean, which is the Pinene doing its work. Break a nug and the profile shifts: the aggression softens and a Sweet Z note surfaces, wrapped in Creamy Citrus with a faint Candy finish. That peppery weight underneath everything is Caryophyllene, while Limonene keeps the citrus bright and Myrcene thickens the base. Dark, tight buds with purple sitting deep in the bract, not just on the tips.

The Smoke

The smoke runs thick and coats the palate. Early pulls stay gassy and slightly funky, savoury more than sweet, with the pine sharpening the back of the throat. Then it turns. Somewhere around the middle the sweet Z side takes over and the creamy citrus comes forward, softer and rounder than the nose promised. It is a flavour that keeps changing on you rather than holding one note, and it lingers well past the exhale. Resin builds fast at the tip.

The High

It arrives quickly and it arrives clear. A Focused lift lands first, alert and sharp edged, the kind that has you reaching for something to do rather than something to watch. Euphoric warmth runs alongside it, and an Uplifting tilt keeps the headspace open for the first half hour or so. Then the indica weight shows up. Relaxed settles across the shoulders, a Body High spreads down from there, and a slow Calming layer takes the edge off the mental sharpness. The tail end is stillness rather than sedation: you are not pinned, you just stop wanting to move much. Gas up front, quiet at the back.
