Is Cannabis Legal in Koh Samui?
Yes, on prescription. Koh Samui follows the same national framework as the rest of Thailand: since 26 June 2025 cannabis flower has been a controlled herb, which means it is legal to buy from licensed premises when a qualified practitioner has issued you a PT33, and not legal to buy without one.
Nothing about the island changes that, in either direction. There is no local exemption that makes it easier here, and no local restriction that makes it harder. What differs between shops is whether they run a real consultation and issue real paperwork. Where to Get a PT33 in Koh Samui
How High has two locations on the island, and both handle the prescription and the products in one place:
- Chaweng, open around the clock
- Fisherman’s Village, Bophut, open daily from 9am to 1am
One address, one visit. The consultation and the shelf are in the same room, so you are not sorting the paperwork in one place and then hunting for product somewhere else with a form in your hand and a shop that may or may not have what was recommended.
Consultation Hours: 10am to Midnight
This is the detail worth planning around, and the reason people occasionally arrive at the wrong moment.
The shops and the consultation run on different clocks. Chaweng is open 24 hours, Fisherman’s Village runs 9am to 1am, but consultations run from 10am to midnight, every day, at both locations. So if you walk into Chaweng at three in the morning you will find the doors open and the lights on, but the PT33 side of things has to wait until 10am.
Inside that window, come whenever suits you. Outside it, come back.
Can You Just Walk In?
Yes. No appointment, no booking system, no waiting list. Turn up during consultation hours and we take it from there.
It is worth knowing that evenings, particularly between around 6pm and 10pm in high season, are the busiest stretch. Nothing dramatic, but if you would rather not wait at all, late morning and early afternoon are the quietest.
What the Visit Looks Like
Most people are surprised how quick it is.
You arrive and we run through a short consultation with you. A qualified practitioner asks what you are looking for, how much experience you have, whether anything in your history is relevant, and what would actually suit you. It is a real assessment rather than a rubber stamp, and it is genuinely useful if you are not sure what you want: the difference between something that will have you sociable and something that will have you asleep is not obvious from a jar.
The PT33 is then completed and issued to you. From there you choose your product with a budtender, with the prescription already sorted, and that is the visit. Keep the form on you for as long as you are carrying what you bought.
What to Bring
- Your passport or Thai ID. The physical document, not a photo of it on your phone
- Proof you are 20 or over. Which the passport covers
- A rough idea of what you are after, though this is optional. Working it out is what the consultation is for
A prescription from your own country does not carry over, so there is no point digging out a medical cannabis card from home. Thailand recognises prescriptions issued under its own framework, and you start fresh here regardless of what you hold elsewhere.
Getting to Us
The Chaweng shop sits in the middle of the island’s busiest strip, so if you are staying anywhere between Chaweng Noi and Bophut you are a short ride away. From Lamai, expect roughly 20 minutes up the coast road.
The Fisherman’s Village shop is in Bophut, on the north coast, and is the easier stop if you are staying around Bophut, Maenam or Big Buddha. It is also the more relaxed of the two if you would rather not deal with Chaweng traffic in the evening.
Both are on the main routes, and any taxi or scooter rental will know Chaweng and Fisherman’s Village without further explanation.
