Swollest Heads by Madlabs is the fresh frozen wash of a cultivar that was bred for this exact job: Papaya Bx1 crossed into Sour Diesel, Zkittlez and Feijoa, selected by Little Lake Valley for the size of its trichome heads. Roughly 20% to 26% THC in the source flower, and the wash comes out loud with ripe guava and sweet berry. Best for day or night.

The Story Behind Swollest Heads

The name is a resin claim, not a joke. TBeezle’s Little Lake Valley line out of Mendocino has been selected for years on head size rather than on bag appeal, and Swollest Heads is the cut where that selection shows most plainly. Papaya Bx1 supplies the tropical fruit; the other side, a Sour Diesel and Zkittlez cross taken into Feijoa, brings the candy and a thin gassy line underneath it. A flower bred that way is a hash flower before it is a jar flower.

Which is why we carry it in two forms and they are not interchangeable. Madlabs presses a Piatella of this same cut, and a piatella is cured under pressure until it goes dark, glossy and dense, trading some of the volatile top end for depth and shelf life. This one is the opposite end of the same harvest: washed straight from frozen, never pressed, so it keeps the fruit that a press quietly rounds off. Same plant, two different arguments about what to preserve. Try both if you can, because the gap between them is the clearest lesson in hash on our shelf.

The Nose

Loud, and specifically fruity rather than sweet in general. Guava leads it, that slightly perfumed tropical note that Papaya genetics always seem to carry, and a sugary berry sits right behind. There is a creamy softness holding the middle together and, if you go looking for it, a thin gassy edge at the very back that keeps the whole thing from reading like a candle. The texture in the tin is pale and granular, the classic unpressed fresh frozen look, and it breaks apart under a fingernail rather than smearing. Limonene is what makes the citrus lift jump out the moment you take the lid off.

The Smoke

Because nothing here has been pressed, it melts fast and it gives you the flavour early rather than making you work for it. The guava and sweet berry land on the inhale almost undiluted, and the exhale is where the faint gas finally arrives, more of a shadow than a flavour. Low temperature is the way to take it: push the heat and you flatten exactly the fruit you paid for. Meanwhile the residue stays light, which is the honest tell of a clean wash.

The High

Balanced, and unusually easy for something this resinous. The first stretch is euphoric and uplifting, bright enough to stay creative with it, and there is a genuine happy streak running through the middle. Then it eases rather than drops, relaxed and steadily calming, and you will notice you are hungry before you notice you are tired. That is what makes it a rare hash you can take at four in the afternoon without writing off the evening.

Who Should Try Swollest Heads by Madlabs?

Take this one if you want to taste the plant rather than be flattened by it. It suits somebody who already knows they like fruit forward hash and wants the version with the top notes intact, and it is forgiving enough for a first proper dab if you keep the temperature low. Anxiety risk reads low, which is not always true at this resin level. For stress, for an appetite that has gone quiet, or simply for an afternoon that needs taking down a gear, it does the job without taking the day with it.
