Sweet Retreat by Caligula
Sweet Retreat by Caligula trades candy for cream: strawberry, vanilla and a soft gassy finish, then a tingly, euphoric lift that melts into calm without the sofa.
Sweet Retreat by Caligula
Sweet Retreat by Caligula is an indica-leaning hybrid (30/70) born from Zangria x Illmatic 5, the cut its breeder calls the first of his strains in the dessert terp category. At 18-23% THC on the published strain figures, this cut, jarred by Caligula, trades candy for cream: berries, vanilla and a soft gassy finish, then a tingly lift that melts into calm. Best for day / night.

The Story Behind Sweet Retreat
Sweet Retreat comes with a clear paper trail. Fiya Farmer crossed his Zangria, a Zkittlez x Thin Mint Cookies cross, with Illmatic 5, a Bacio Gelato x Georgia Pie line, and Doja Pak brought it out as a clone-only California release in early 2023. On his own clone menu he sums it up in three words, sweet, tropical, creamy, and adds the purple colouring and an eight to nine week flower. You can taste the Zangria side in particular: Fiya lists its terps as Zkittlez, dough and gas, which is exactly the faint gassy cookie that turns up at the back of this jar.
The release found its audience fast. The Highest Critic reviewed it in April 2023, and smokers in Michigan and Maine have posted their own write-ups since. Caligula, the label this jar comes under, publishes nothing about who grew it and no lab sheet, so the figures on this page belong to the cultivar, not to this batch.
The Nose
Think strawberry smoothie, not candy shop. The first wave is soft and creamy, with ripe berry notes that reviewers pin down as strawberry, blackcurrant and winter berries, and a vanilla pod sweetness that pulls the whole jar toward dessert. It is plainly sweet, yet one reviewer stressed that it is not a typical candy nose. At the back sits a light, gassy finish, and some batches add a herbal note or even a paint-fume edge. We found no lab profile for the cultivar, so the terpenes are inferred from the parents: Caryophyllene for the warm, faintly spiced undertone some smokers describe as spicy cream, Limonene lifting the fruit, and Myrcene softening the base.
The Smoke
The smoke keeps the cream. Reviewers describe a creamy inhale with sweet grape and peach, creamy strawberry across the palate, and a gassy cookie on the exhale, with the faintest touch of mint at the very end. Others picked up bubblegum and vanilla. The gas is never the star, but it is what keeps the jar from tasting like a milkshake.
The High
It starts with a tingle. The first minutes are tingly and euphoric, a busy head high that is genuinely uplifting and leaves the mood happy. Then the body follows, warm and buzzing through the chest, as a body high settles in and everything turns relaxed and calming. It pulls you down low and slow, as one critic put it, without locking you to the sofa, and the head stays clear enough for a conversation. One Reddit reviewer called it a perfect hybrid, head and body both in motion. It is the rare dessert strain that leaves you good company rather than half asleep.

Who Should Try Sweet Retreat by Caligula?
Sweet Retreat by Caligula is for the smoker who wants dessert flavour without dessert sleepiness. Seasoned smokers take it in the daytime, while most will enjoy it more from the afternoon on, when a calm body and a chatty head fit the plan. It is not a beginner jar: The Highest Critic’s reviewers rated its strength 9.1 out of 10, and the anxiety risk reads medium, so if racing thoughts are familiar, start with a pull or two and wait. For stress, low mood, headaches or everyday aches, it sits in a useful middle ground, relaxing enough to take the edge off and clear enough to stay present.
