Toad Venom by Caligula smells of lime, mint and sweet dough over loud gas. A soaring, euphoric rush first, then a heavy body high that rarely tips into sleep.

Toad Venom by Caligula

Toad Venom by Caligula is an indica-leaning hybrid (30/70) born from Animal Face x Sin Mintz, the Ronin Seeds cross that turned into the most hyped cut of 2026. Published figures for the cultivar sit at 27-34% THC, and this cut, jarred by Caligula, smells of lime, mint and sweet dough over loud gas, with a euphoric rush that lands heavy in the body. Best for night.

Original Cali Pack by Caligula, jarred at 7g.

The Story Behind Toad Venom

Ask who made Toad Venom and you get two answers. Ronin Seeds of Los Angeles, working with West Coast Connoisseurs, is usually credited with the cross: Animal Face, Seed Junky Genetics’ Face Off OG x Animal Mints, over Sin Mintz, a Sin Mint Cookies x Zkittlez line. Yet the plant everyone chases was found by Green Dragon, a North Hollywood nursery that germinated all thirty seeds it received in 2021 and kept a single one. They called her Becky. The name Toad Venom came later, from the Ronin side, and Ronin’s Jake says it grew out of one question: what is a sinful animal?

From there she became what one writer called drama weed. Both camps agree that Ronin bred, named and marketed her and that Green Dragon owns her, yet the argument over credit never really stopped, and a cut reportedly recovered from backup in Colorado now circulates as Frog Poison, which took Best Gas at the 2026 Billy Awards in New York. This jar comes to us from Caligula, a label that publishes nothing about its growers or lab results, so the numbers on this page are the cultivar’s published figures, not a test of this batch.

The Nose

Toad smells like its parents taking turns. A bright lime comes first, sharp and a little candied, which writers trace to the Zkittlez in Sin Mintz. A clean mint and a sweet, doughy cookie are the Sin Mint Cookies side, and under all of it runs a heavy, gassy fuel that belongs to Animal Face. Then comes the funk, the part reviewers struggle to describe politely: oniony, swampy, even savory. On the one lab sheet we found for the cultivar, another grower’s batch tested by Kaycha Labs, Caryophyllene led at 1.07%, ahead of Limonene, Linalool and Myrcene, with 3.78% total terpenes. Reviewers of US batches describe lime green buds streaked with dark purple, sticky enough to jam a grinder.

The Smoke

For something this loud it smokes surprisingly smooth, though it expands, so take the first pull easy. Sweet lime and dough lead the inhale, the gas takes over on the exhale, and the mint threads through both. One reviewer kept finding a savory, almost cured meat note under the dough and could not stop trying to name it; another compared the whole thing to a margarita mix with minty, doughy gas and an oniony funk at the end. The flavour coats and lingers, fading only a little as the joint turns resinous.

The High

The onset does not wait. Reviewers describe the high arriving almost as the lighter comes out, a soaring, euphoric head rush that is genuinely uplifting and, for some, talkative and creative. There is pressure behind the forehead, and the eyes drop early. Then the body takes over: muscles go relaxed, a thick body high settles in, and it turns properly heavy, the sedative weight most reviews mention. What is interesting is where it stops. Several writers say it stays functional for a seasoned smoker and rarely tips into sleep, a sedative that leaves the lights on, although one newer smoker went numb and froze for half an hour.

Who Should Try Toad Venom by Caligula?

Toad Venom by Caligula is a jar for people who already know what 30% THC feels like. Save it for the evening, when that heavy body is the point: a long dinner, a film, a slow night with friends. If you are anxiety-prone, keep the first session to a pull or two, because the head pressure early on can feel intense. It suits stress that will not switch off, chronic pain and the muscle tension that builds over a long day, and some reach for it when low mood sits on them. We have carried this cultivar under other labels too, from IYKYK, Karma Cartel and Mr Gelatti, and like every Toad, each lot reads a little differently, some heavier on the lime, some on the funk.
