The Story Behind Clementine

Clementine comes from Crockett Family Farms, the California outfit that gave the world Tangie. For this cross they took a standout Lemon Skunk phenotype, the very plant that won first place at the 2014 Emerald Cup, and paired it with their signature Tangie. The result took home hardware at the 2015 High Times Cannabis Cup in Michigan and became a staple for citrus lovers everywhere.

Here is the twist most people miss: despite the orange name, lab panels consistently show terpinolene out front, not limonene. That is the same terpene that drives Tangie, and it explains why Clementine reads sweeter and more complex than a plain lemon strain. The genetics run deep on our shelf too, since Clementine is one half of Frozen Mimosa. Our version is grown right here in Thailand, so expect the profile to lean on those genetics rather than a California lab sheet.

The Nose

You get tangerine peel before the jar is fully open. It is sharp and sweet at the same time, like zesting an orange over a bowl of sugar. Underneath the citrus there is a rounder sweet layer, then a squeeze of fresh lemon from the Lemon Skunk side. That fruity, almost floral lift on top? Classic Terpinolene. A mild earthy base and a faint peppery warmth from Caryophyllene keep it from smelling like straight fruit juice. The buds on our Thai batch come in bright green with amber pistils and a fine, even coat of frost.

The Smoke

Zesty on the way in, dessert on the way out. The citrus hits the palate first, then the exhale turns into candied orange with a soft earthy floor. The smoke itself is light and easy, the kind you can sip on without coughing your lungs out, and the flavour holds all the way down the joint instead of fading after the first third. In addition, there is a subtle herbal edge from the Myrcene that only shows up once the joint is burning.

The High

This one moves quickly. Within a few minutes you feel the energetic push behind the eyes, and right from the first pull the head stays clear rather than foggy. A focused, uplifting wave follows, the sort that makes you actually start the thing you have been putting off.
