The Story Behind Doki Doki

Doki doki is Japanese onomatopoeia, the sound of a heart thumping in your chest, the one manga reaches for when somebody falls in love. Perfect Tree has never spelled the reference out, but for a plant that finishes deep purple and tastes like cherry candy, the name does most of the work by itself. What makes the cross genuinely interesting is that both parents are Perfect Tree’s own work: Spritz, a Mimosa crossed with Jet A that carries bitter orange and a fizzy citrus lift, and Cherrytini, a Cherry Noir crossed with that same Jet A, all candied fruit and liqueur sitting on fuel.

Which means Jet A lands on both sides of the family tree. That cut from Exotic Genetix, itself a Gelato 33 and Tina cross, is one of the heaviest resin producers in circulation, and doubling up on it was not an accident. Perfect Tree built this line for extraction from the first pairing. Terps O Kofi washed the fresh frozen material and pressed it into single gram jars, and that is where the doubled resin actually pays off: you get the full citrus and cherry picture instead of the flattened version a lazy wash leaves behind.

The Nose

The citrus gets there first, and it is not the soft kind. Think bitter orange peel, oils and all, sharp enough to make you look twice at a jar this small. Right behind it comes the cherry, candied rather than fresh, closer to a bowl of boiled candy than anything off a tree, and that sweet layer is what keeps the two halves talking to each other. Then the floor drops out into diesel. The bright top end is Limonene doing the heavy lifting, with Caryophyllene putting the peppery bite underneath it. The hash presses out a pale gold and holds its shape better than most fresh frozen.

The Smoke

Where a lot of citrus-forward hash goes thin on the palate, this one keeps its body. The orange arrives clean on the inhale, then the cherry and candy take over halfway through and stay put, sweeter in the smoke than in the jar. Meanwhile the diesel that sat so low in the nose pushes forward on the exhale and leaves a real fuel finish. There is a herbal, faintly musky weight sitting under all of it from the Myrcene, and it burns cleanly enough to go several rounds before the flavour starts muddying.
