The Story Behind Zushi Noire

Noire is black, and that is the whole riddle: this is The Tenco’s Black Zushi, released in a Maison O Caçapo tin with both houses on the lid. The Tenco is run by a Frenchman working out of California, which explains the Paris-Fornia stamped on every one of these jars, the Herbe de Luxe line under it, and a monogram that owes a debt to a certain Parisian trunk maker. The tins are jokes for people who get the joke.

The cut itself was never planned. He found it in a bag of Blue Zushi seeds, a single phenotype that came out darker and considerably heavier than its siblings, and kept it. Blue Zushi is Zkittlez crossed to Kush Mints 11, so the candy and the cold menthol were always in the family; what this pheno added was weight. It is worth knowing that Black Zushi is not a cross somebody designed, it is a plant somebody noticed, which is how a decent share of the modern catalogue actually happens.

The Nose

Cold before it is sweet. The first hit off the tin is mint, sharp and almost medicinal, and only then does the candy sweet Zkittlez side come up behind it. Underneath sits a dry earthy note and a gassy base that gets louder the longer the jar stays open, which is the part that separates this pheno from the Blue. That menthol-citrus brightness is Limonene working with Linalool, and the peppery weight at the bottom is Caryophyllene doing what it does. Buds run dark, genuinely dark, deep green going to near-black at the edges, tight and heavily frosted.

The Smoke

Thick, and it expands more than you expect from something that smells this clean. The mint carries through the inhale intact, then the gas takes the exhale and stays on the palate. As you go the sweetness recedes and the earthy end takes over, so the back half of a joint tastes noticeably darker than the front. Not a harsh smoke, but a heavy one, and at this potency the second half is optional.

The High

The opening is deceptive. A bright euphoric rush arrives fast and stays cerebral for a while, clear enough to feel focused, and that is the window where people misjudge this jar and reach for more. Then the body arrives. It turns calming, then thoroughly relaxed, then frankly heavy, and the head goes quiet with it. Meanwhile the sedation keeps building rather than levelling off, which is the difference between this and the Blue Zushi it came from. Whatever you meant to do after this, do it first.
