OG Kush

OG Kush is a balanced hybrid (55/45) born from Chemdawg x Hindu Kush. At 20-26% THC, this is the single most important strain in modern cannabis history, the one that built the West Coast, with an earthy, gassy punch and a calming body high that anchors everything. Best for night.

Thai Weed grown in Thailand.

The Story Behind OG Kush

The story of OG Kush begins in Florida around 1992 with Matt “Bubba” Berger, who grew the strain from a random bag of flower. A friend smoked it and said it reminded him of “kushberries.” In 1996, Berger packed his prized cuts and moved to Los Angeles, where he connected with Josh Del Rosso, known as Josh D. The two became roommates, and Josh D took over propagation. Around 1997, Josh entered a small competition in the Bay Area with only his second OG Kush harvest and scored a perfect 10/10 in every category. Demand exploded, prices hit $8,000 per pound, and the West Coast was never the same.

The “OG” debate lives on. Josh D confirmed the original meaning as “Ocean Grown,” coined when someone suggested the strain was mountain-grown and Josh corrected them. The mainstream “Original Gangster” interpretation, boosted by hip-hop culture, became more popular. Either way, OG Kush became the backbone of nearly every major modern hybrid. Girl Scout Cookies, Gelato, Sherbet, Headband, Tahoe OG. All roads lead back to this one. Growing it in Thailand brings a 30-year American legacy to a country with a cannabis heritage that goes back centuries.

The Nose

Unmistakable. That earthy, gassy funk hits you like a wall, dense and pungent, the smell that defined what “loud” means in cannabis culture. Citrus brightness weaves through the gas, a lemon-lime edge that lifts the profile. Myrcene lays down the musky, herbal foundation, heavy and grounding. Limonene handles the citrus lift, while Caryophyllene adds the peppery, skunky bite that sits in the back of the nose. There’s a pine note in there too, resinous and sharp, the Hindu Kush genetics showing through. The overall impression is powerful, complex, and immediately recognizable. Dense, frosty nuggets with the classic OG structure: tight calyxes, orange hairs, and a stickiness that transfers to everything it touches.

The Smoke

The moment you taste it, you understand why this strain conquered the world. Earthy and gassy on the inhale, thick smoke that sits heavy in the mouth. The citrus cuts through on the exhale, clean and bright against all that fuel. Pine lingers in the aftertaste, resinous and cool. The smoke expands in the lungs, substantial but not harsh. There’s a skunky quality that builds over the session, getting louder with each pull. The burn is slow and even, oily resin ring visible early. This is what cannabis is supposed to taste like when everything comes together.

The High

The calm arrives first, a warm blanket that settles over the mind and quiets the noise. Body high builds alongside it, a comfortable heaviness that starts in the core and radiates outward. Giggly moments surface unexpectedly, making ordinary observations funny. The sociable quality keeps conversation flowing even as the body relaxes. Euphoric warmth persists throughout, never peaking aggressively but maintaining a steady, contented baseline. Then hunger arrives, inevitable and absolute. The high is remarkably well-rounded, never too cerebral, never too heavy, just perfectly balanced. That balance is what made OG Kush the parent of everything that came after.

Who Should Try OG Kush?

Everyone should try OG Kush at least once. At 20-26% THC, it’s potent but manageable, though the medium anxiety risk means sensitive smokers should ease in. If you deal with stress, anxiety, pain, or appetite loss, this strain’s balanced, calming high is genuinely therapeutic. The giggly, sociable phase makes it great for evening sessions with friends, while the deeper body relaxation that follows sets you up for sleep. If you’ve been chasing the latest exotic drops and wondering what all the fuss is about, smoke this and you’ll hear every modern strain’s family tree whispering back at you.
