The Story Behind Josh D OG

The name belongs to Josh Del Rosso, known as Josh D, the founder of Josh D Farms and a grower many consider one of the pioneers of OG Kush. As the story is usually told, he and his friend Matt “Bubba” Berger found the genetics in a bag of seeds in Orlando, Florida, around 1991 or 1992. In 1996 the plant went west to Los Angeles, where the two grew it in Silver Lake and handed out cuttings to friends until it had spread across California. Along the way they started calling their version OG Kush, and when Josh D is asked what OG stands for, his answer is simple: original.

Josh D OG is that history put back into seed. Karma Genetics, the Dutch seed house, made it with him as a feminized line built from three OG cuts: San Fernando Valley OG, Triangle Kush and Hell’s Angel OG. The jar we carry wears the Blueprint name, and which seed or cutting it was grown from is not on record. Some listings also add The White as a fourth parent, so our card sticks to the three-way cross that most databases carry.

The Nose

Kush noses start low, and this one is no exception. A damp, earthy base comes up first, then pine needles crushed between the fingers. Give it a second and the top brightens, citrus peel sharpening into sour lemon. Under it all runs a streak of diesel, which the breeder’s own notes call medicinal. The musky weight at the bottom points to Myrcene, the lead terpene in reported tests, while Limonene keeps the lemon loud. As for looks, the strain is usually described with olive green, popcorn sized buds, light amber hairs and a good frost.

The Smoke

On the inhale it is mostly pine and diesel, resinous and old school, and the lemon turns up later, on the exhale, sour rather than sweet. Then the finish goes spicy and woody, a dry warmth at the back of the tongue that points to Caryophyllene. It is an OG in the old sense, more resin than candy, so slow pulls get more out of it than big ones.

The High

It opens in a good mood. The first few minutes are euphoric and plainly happy, a warm lift that makes the start of a session easy company. Then it folds inward. Focus is the first thing to go, the shoulders drop, and a relaxed, calming weight spreads into a full body high. From there it only turns heavy and drowsy, and on most nights it ends in a nap.

Who Should Try Josh D OG by Blueprint?

Reach for Josh D OG by Blueprint when you want a classic Kush rather than another candy cross, and when nothing else needs doing that night. It suits the smoker who winds down with stress, aches, cramps or a head that will not switch off at bedtime, since the whole arc points toward rest. Reviews of the strain split a little, too: one smoker found it lighter and more sativa-like than its 70/30 label, another ranked Skywalker OG above it.
