The Story Behind LA Kush

The lineage is genuinely disputed and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Some sources put it as LA Confidential crossed back into OG Kush, others read it as a straight OG Kush backcross, and no breeder page settles it. What every source does agree on is the phenotype: dense, sticky, resin heavy, and unmistakably OG on the nose. For a hash maker that is the part that matters, and it is why this flower gets washed rather than jarred.

Salus Samui works out of Koh Samui and washes locally grown flower. They are better known here for their live rosin, and this is the same instinct applied at a lower price: take a resinous cut, freeze it fresh, and let the plant do the talking. The interesting thing about the OG family in a wash is that it holds up. A lot of fruit forward modern genetics lose their top notes somewhere between the ice and the screen; the pine and pepper of an OG survive the process almost intact, because those terpenes are heavier to start with.

The Nose

Cold and green before anything else. Mint hits first, peppermint rather than spearmint, and then a resinous pine opens up behind it like a cut branch. Underneath sits the earthy base that gives the OG family its weight, damp rather than dusty, with a dry herbal edge on top. Go looking at the back and there is a peppery bite that is pure Caryophyllene. The hash is darker than most fresh frozen on the shelf, tan going amber, and it is sticky enough to want a tool rather than fingers.

The Smoke

Full and resinous, with a real coat to it. Where a fruit wash gives you flavour and then disappears, this one sits on the palate and the pine keeps going long after the exhale. There is a menthol coolness on the way in that makes it easier on the chest than the density suggests, then the earth and pepper arrive underneath and stay. It melts evenly rather than fast. On top of that the flavour barely shifts across a session, which is an OG trait and part of why people stay loyal to the family.

The High

Here is the surprise, and it is worth setting expectations properly. On paper this is a 90 percent indica. In practice it opens in the head: uplifting and clearly focused, the sort of clean motivation you can actually use, with a warm euphoric layer and a straightforwardly happy mood behind it. The body arrives second, maybe twenty minutes in, relaxed and quietly calming without ever pinning you down. Reviewers of the flower keep making the same observation and it holds true in the wash: strong, but it arrives without the edge a big sativa brings.
