The Story Behind Pitaya Strain

Pitaya was bred by Intrepid Genetics on the Central Coast of California, and it has a genuine origin story worth telling. The breeder selected the Grape Pie female from Cannarado Genetics, one of the most respected seed banks for fruit-forward genetics, and crossed it with a Dragon Fruit male sourced from Dying Breed Seeds (also known as 3rd Gen Family). The result was Pitaya, named after the dragon fruit itself.

Pitaya 23, the specific selection that put Intrepid on the map, was hunted from a batch of 50 seeds in an indoor environment back in 2016. The breeder has said publicly that Pitaya was one of the first cultivars that really clicked after years of experimental crosses. Grape Pie brings deep purple colours and jammy grape terps from its Cherry Pie x Grape Stomper lineage. Dragon Fruit contributes tropical sweetness with a creamy, exotic character. Together, they create something that tastes like its name suggests: exotic, sweet, and layered.

The Nose

Deep berry richness fills the room. Grape and dark fruit, almost wine-like in intensity. Then fruity, sweet tropical notes roll in, the Dragon Fruit genetics showing up with exotic sweetness.
