The Story Behind Moonbow

Moonbow is the work of Archive Seed Bank, the Portland-based genetics house founded by Fletcher Watson, known in the scene as “ThaDocta.” Watson spent over 15 years collecting and preserving rare clone-only genetics from the West Coast, and Do-Si-Dos was one of his own creations, crossing Face Off OG with OG Kush Breath, an unusual “mutant” phenotype from the cookie family. When he paired that with Zkittlez, the result was something the industry hadn’t seen before: candy terpenes stacked on OG-level resin production.

From a population of roughly 200 plants, Archive selected Moonbow #75 and #112 as the standouts. Phenotype #75 became instrumental in breeding Rainbow Belts, while #112 captured the best balance of candy aromatics with improved structure. The “IX” suffix sometimes attached to #112 refers to an inbred cross, three years of sibling breeding to lock in the recessive purple and flavour traits. Leafly later placed Moonbow on their “100 Best Weed Strains of All Time” list. Blueprint Cannabis runs this cut through their Arizona operation, bringing their own cultivation expertise to Archive’s genetics.

The Nose

The nose on this one is deceptively gentle until you grind it. Sealed in the bag, you get soft fruity sweetness and something almost floral, like a bowl of mixed berries dusted with powdered sugar. Crack a nug and the candy note opens wide, bright and sugary, while berry undertones sit underneath with a jammy richness. Limonene drives the citrus brightness, giving it that sparkling quality that keeps the sweetness from going flat. Caryophyllene adds a subtle warmth, and Linalool rounds the edges with a lavender-like softness. The buds are dense, olive green with purple streaks, and absolutely plastered with trichomes.
