The Story Behind White Cherry

The White is one of the odder plants in the catalogue. It was named for how it looks rather than how it smells, because it is so buried in trichomes that the flower goes pale, and its own aroma is famously close to nothing. Breeders have used it for exactly that reason for twenty years: it hands a cross enormous resin and heavy effects without imposing a flavour of its own. Cherry OG, the other side here, is the part doing the talking.

That makes White Cherry a natural hash flower, and it is why Salus Samui washes it rather than jarring it. A plant that produces resin like The White gives a generous return on the ice, and because its own contribution to the nose is close to silent, what you taste in the tin is mostly Cherry OG, concentrated. In short, one parent brought the weight and the other brought the flavour, which is a cleaner division of labour than most crosses manage.

The Nose

It smells like a sweet shop with a petrol station next door. Cherry comes out first and it reads as syrup rather than fresh fruit, backed by a rounder berry depth and a definite sweet pull. Then a creamy note fills the middle, and right at the end there is a gassy line that stops the whole thing from being sugary. The hash itself is very pale, almost blonde, which is The White declaring itself before you even open the tin. Limonene carries the cherry up, while the Myrcene underneath is a fair warning about where the evening is going.

The Smoke

Sweet all the way through, with almost no bitterness at the back. The cherry holds its shape on the inhale better than most fruit notes survive a wash, and the exhale turns creamy rather than sharp. It melts pale and clean, leaving very little behind, which is what a high resin flower tends to do. At the same time the smoke is thicker than it tastes, so a small amount goes further here than the gentle flavour suggests.

The High

It does not ease you into anything. Within a few minutes the euphoric lift arrives and it is spacey rather than sharp, a slightly detached uplifting feeling that never quite becomes mental clarity. Then the body takes over completely: relaxed turning into deeply calming, limbs getting heavier, the room getting further away. Sleepiness reads high on this one and the tin earns that rating honestly. Put simply, plan nothing after it.

This is a nightcap and nothing else. Reach for it when pain or a migraine is keeping you up, or when you have had one of those days that will not switch off on its own. It is not the one to take into a conversation, and it is not the one to try first if you have never had a wash before.
