Gorilla Glue 4 is one of the most decorated strains in modern cannabis history. The story starts in 2009 with breeder Joesy Whales, who had stepped away from cannabis for twenty years while working as a crane operator. When he came back, he and fellow breeder Lone Watie started working with Chem and Diesel genetics. The GG4 cut was actually an accident, coming from seeds that Joesy had discarded from a failed project. A friend held onto them, and when they finally grew them out, three useable females emerged: GG1, GG2, and GG4. The “Gorilla Glue” name came from how the sticky resin glued up scissors and fingers during trimming. In 2014, GG4 won multiple High Times Cannabis Cup trophies in both Los Angeles and Michigan, launching a nationwide phenomenon. In 2017, the name was changed to “GG4” after legal action from the Gorilla Glue adhesive company.
